Tobey Mandel, PhD

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Tobey Mandel is a clinical psychologist at Connecte Montreal Psychology Group and a member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec. Tobey completed her PhD at McGill University, and her research interests include perfectionism, emotional regulation, mood disorders, and stress. Tobey had received extensive clinical training at a variety of clinics, including the Sex and Couples Therapy Service at the Allan Memorial Institute, the Center for Chronic Pain at the Montreal General Hospital, the Youth Service at the Jewish General Hospital, a private Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Clinic, and finally the Eating Disorders Program at the Douglas Institute. She has primarily received training in cognitive-behavioral therapy and process-oriented therapy, but also has had experience with acceptance and commitment therapy. Her current clinical interests include working with couples and individuals on intimacy, communication, and sexual difficulties, as well as working with individuals with eating disorders, chronic and genital pain difficulties, as well as mood disorders.

In terms of her therapeutic approach, Tobey aims first to create a safe and nonjudgmental space for individuals to better explore and understand their presenting difficulties. She then works to identify which type of approach would best suit each client in order to tailor the therapy to the specific individual or couple. She is open and flexible with her approach, and aims to create a collaborative, warm, and goal oriented therapeutic experience. Over time, Tobey works to help each client develop the tools and understanding necessary for them better manage and overcome their difficulties.

Outside of her research and clinic interests, Tobey loves to spend time outside, read, explore new restaurants and festivals, and spend time with her small dog, close friends, and family.
